hey linds...read your post on the other thread for cysts. Gosh, you are incredible with all your info, what a blessing to this board. what kind of vitamins do you think we should take? what fixes PCOS, does weight loss correct it? I have all the symptoms since I have gained weight. how are you doing, what part of your cycle are you on? have you heard anything from celstia?

Hi lovemy3, if you suspect you may have PCOS, realize this is an underlying metobolic disorder, linked with insulin issues and how the liver metabolizes carbs. That is probably your link to the weight issue you discussed before. So, I say reduce carb intake first. (That is how I stay thin, and keep my period and ovulation each month. I also don't have the obvious insulin resistance, according to my glucose fasting test, that may come with PCOS because I stay away from carbs (I still eat breads-just sparingly and stay away from potatoes, they are the worst for PCOS), but there is something there that can't be determined in terms of my insulin levels being distorted in some form...it is still PCOS.) There was a study done recently with women tested on a low carb diet, it found insulin levels were lower and the insulin response to carbs was less. Since the carbohydrate reduction helped to control insulin, there would be a reduced inclination to develop insulin resistance, which many doctors think is a root cause of PCOS. The study concluded that a moderate reduction in dietary carbohydrate reduced the fasting and post-challenge insulin concentrations among women with PCOS, which, over time, may improve reproductive/endocrine outcomes. This will help you lose weight. The truth is, a lot of women battling weight issues have actually one common problem, liver toxin build up. Try reducing the carbs, cleanse the liver (alot of PCOSers have fatty liver disease or sluggish livers from the toxic buildup) and drink a ton more water to do so. Dandellion tea is awesome for detoxifying the body/liver/kidneys. After you do these things, start thinking about your vitamin intake. Women with PCOS generally have a deficiency in magnesium, B12, and the essential omega 3 fatty acids. These omega 3 fatty acids are CRUCIAL for conception. There is one called DHA that all women store in our bodies, since we all don't eat enough fatty fish...you need to take it in a supplement. Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon are high in two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Once you have a baby, the first baby actually robs the body of your DHA storage, and some doctors think that may be one of the contributors to having a hard time getting pregnant again for secondary infertility. Because your stores were robbed with the first baby....so start thinking about how much omega 3 essential fatty acids are really in your diet, probably not a lot. The other omega 3 is alpha-linolenic acid (LNA), which can become omega-3 fatty acid in the body...(flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts). The LNA is found in evening primrose I beleive, which balances estrogen in the body too and gets the good cervical mucous we need. If we are talking herbs, I have read that chasteberry (vitex) 100-175 mg a day actually balance the estrogen and progesterone ratio (which pcosers generally have a progesterone imbalance). It also is important for proper cell function and normalizes the prolactin levels in the body. Indol-3-carbonal (I think that is how it is spelled) actually has been shown to reverse abnormal pap smears within threee cycles as it eliminates toxic and cancer causing estrogens. The point is, there are herbs out there that can help the woman's body regain a healthy state, even though doctors don't "prescribe herbs." I wouldn't go out and buy all these herbs, like milk thistle that actually helps promote liver health, but I would really think about the toxins and junk we put in our body everyday and find the herbs that can help us remedy the problem we think we have, as a supplement.

Linds, I agree with Lovemy3 you are a blessing to this thread! I appreciate you so much!! You have a lot of knowledge and I appreciate so much you sharing it with us. The vitamin thing could be it. I am so excited - I am driving back home to see my family after work today which means I will see my nephew. He is my best little buddy! JB how is your step daughter? I hope things are well. Keep us posted.

I actually feel like you guys are the "blessings"...I have women around me that understand what it feels like to be on this side of the rope, that is the comforting thing about this thread...I'm not talking to people who really don't give a s-it about TTC, which is a subject that has impacted my life in so many ways. So, if I find useful info, I have to share it with women who need it...who else am I going to share it with? Not that stupid neighbor I have that told me to "drink wine and have wild sex and I'll get pregnant" terrible advice from a woman who doesn't know what it's like to have an actual diagnosed problem. At least I get spiritual uplifting here a sense of community you know? I love you guys....We're gonna get pregnant! Heck, we deserve to be mothers!!!

Thanks Linds... All that info is great. Between #1 and #2, I started to get hair growth on my chin andjust maybe 2 or 3 on my chest and I went to a specialist and had bloodwork done. They called and told me that my DHEAS hormojne was elevated, number 10 I think they said. He said lose weight right away and we will retest. Lost 30 and we restested...completely in normal range. he gave me a form for the next 6 months and wanted me to go and get it retested each month. I never ended up doing it since i got a normal score...bad i know. then, got pregnant with my last at about 60 lbs lighter. So now I;'m heavier and hairy. Just a little on my chin, that I know is there. Face is fine, cheeks etc, chest is fine, arms and legs normal. No acne either but this darn weight. I am also getting tons of cankers lately. I had my physical in june and my cholestrol was perfect, glucose great. Bloods were good, although no HORMONEs were checked except thyroid as that is standard. So that is where I'm at, do you know anything about DHEAs? I wonder if now that I am heavier again if its back up? What exactly is the dose of Primrose Oil, name etc. I'm going to go get it. Plus, I live on carbs all day. Thanks so much, you have been so great.

Dump the carbs! I know it is hard to do, I won't give them up. But really, I think the hair growth on the chin (which happens to older women because the estrogen starts creeping up with testosterone) is a fact of life. The hair growth is just an unfortunate that some women get and some don't because our genes are to blame for the way our hair follicles respond to the buildup of androgens in the body. That DHEA test is actually a type of test checking a woman's steroid hormone produced by the adrenal gland. That hormone/steroid seems to be the most dominant in the blood. DHEA levels are known to decline as women age. Anyway, doctor's seem to be interested in DHEA because it gives them insight on the other steroid sex hormones-estrogen and testosterone, which we need. But right now doctors really don't know what the actual role of the DHEA, other than it is metabilized by the other steroid hormones we produce, somewhat helps the woman's body compensate if their is in imbalance with testosterone or estrogen. This book I have has indicated that DHEA has been linked with fighting aging and obesity. Perhaps that is why your doctor was checking those levels. Anyway, the dose that works for me is 3,000 mg (3 pills of evening prim rose oil per day). I started taking just two per day, but really saw awesome egg white cervical mucous with 3. Again, there are no side effects for taking evening prim rose oil, just take it during the follicular phase, and maybe switch over to flax seed oil during the luteal or another omega 3 vitamin.

Your canker sores could be indicative of high acid build up inthe body. Start drinking a lot of water and rinse your mouth out daily, three times with baking soda, this will make them go away.

Going to start a new thread, see ya there
