please help - June 9th, 2005 11:38 AM

I'm 40 y.o. ttc. Went to gyn and he prescribed Clomid 100 mg, day 5-7 and prometrium 100mg. Sounds good so far? I thought so too... I know that my chances of becoming pregnant decreases after age 40 but my menstrual cycle is every 28 days like clockwork and I do ovulate every month. My question is why did he prescribe the Clomid and prometrium if I'm not experiencing any problems other than becoming pregnant. Also, the only thing he said was to take prometrium on day 5 of ovulation but didn't specify for how long.

I'm not sure if this is why your doc gave you the Clomid, but maybe he felt that because of your age you might need a little more help with ovulation....a better chance of conceiving. Just a guess though. As for the Prometrium I really dont know anything about that. Maybe give his office a call and see if you can ask him what your supposed to do and why. These meds don't work unless you take them properly, so its kinda important that you know. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I don't really know when I ovulate. I'm currently taking 100mg of clomid. My periods have been between 28-32 days on avg..but in the last 2 months my periods have been on days 38-40. Does that mean I ovulate later then I think or do I ovulate on days 15-16 like a person with normal periods?

When do you ovulate

glossy - August 9th, 2005 9:36 PM

I dont take anything tablets

Becca - August 11th, 2005 10:56 PM

to Nikki- Yes you could still have PCOS, other symptoms include weight problems, acne, excessive facial and body hair and so forth. My story-I have PCOS and don't have periods. I have been on fertility drugs since Feb and not pregnant yet, they have me on clomid, FSH injections, and so on, I am kind of shocked from reading here how many women were just prescribed clomid and are not being monitored, I go in for ultrasounds through out my period so we know when my eggs are mature and how many of them, I start OPK on day 10 (ovulation predictor kit) and if my eggs are mature and I still havent gotten a + OPK I do an HCG injection to induce ovulation, and then 2 weeks later take a blood test (because there may still be a little HCG from the injection and blood will let them know if it is a pregnancy or left over HCG). Anyhow, I am just beginning to wonder if I will ever get pregnant. Anybody else in this situation?
