Hi I am new to this site. I have been looking for a site with this title. After reading the posting I am in a similar situation. I have been ttc for 7 mths and just started on metformin 500mg twice a day. How it goes I take Provera 10mg (10days) for cycle and met together. Will begin 100mg of Clomid this month. I have tried 50mg Clomid twice but no ovulation. Hoping for somethings this month. My dr put me on metformin because it seems that after complete blood work I am insulin resistant. She decided to put me on the metformin and suggested that I try a excise routine to help balance out my insulin resistant. I am 15pds overweight which it is not too bad but not helping out. After reading Clomid graduate posting on metformin it has me more toward suggesting staying on metformin for the first trimester when I get pg. Need to keep a positive attitude so yes when I get pg! It is scary reading about all the m/c making me very necessary when I do get pg it is highly possible that it can happen. Has anyone been told by their dr to stay on metformin during their first trimester I would greatly appreciate any feed back. |

My doctor told me that he's "supppossed" to recommend to stop taking the Metformin if pregnancy occurs b/c Metformin in a Class B drug..which means that research has not said it does/or does not affect the fetus....however, my doctor said that if I were his sister(and he does like his sister) he'd recommend that I stay on the Metformin at least thru the first trimester. I'm currently taking 1000 mg daily of Metformin and am increasing it to 2000 over next two weeks. I'm 11 dpo so I'm just waiting! |

Amy- I live in the south too....around San Diego, where i grew up. Where are you? I never had the weight problem, thank the lord, i just have the period problem and fertility problem. WANNABABY- i have diarhhea in the beginning and never really hungry(i think thats where the weight lose comes in), but if you keep on it, it gets better and the side effects are gone. Its worth it if you want a baby. back to Amy....i have the 12 or more little pearl like cyct around my ovaries. they say its normal to have cyst and it doent automatically mean its PCOS. so doing the hormone check is important. have u had ur FSH levels checked around day 3 of ur cycle? if they are elevated that means higher chance of imbalance hormones and miscarriage. Also high FSH could mean PCOS. i have high levels around day 3, so that is why the metformin probably prevented the miscarriage w/ my daughter. Insulin is related to the FSH and other reproductive hormones. Must b nice to ovulate on ur own. U MUST FEEL LIKE A REAL WOMAN!! i NEVER do, or at least i dont think i do. I am only 27 and yeah, i love being in motherhood and want all my kids back to back. My husband and i are think 3. Good idea to stay on progestrone and metformin. too much doesnt hurt. Also try baby asprin during the first trimester. Thats what my fertility doc does with me. and also NO STRESS!! lol. to be honest i dont really think about the PCOS except to have kids. I guess i dont care if i dont have periods later:) but if weight or hair growth or all that other stuff from it is a problem than i think a good diet, excersice and keeping the insulin resistance in check are all good ways to control it. my hubby and i have been together since highschool and we were always on birth control. 7 years or so. sometimes i think that all this fertiitly problems was because of that. all those hormones for so many years had to mess up the natural period. but docs say that there is no evidence of that. but for some reason i think it has something to do with it cuz no one in either of our families have any problems. everyone has had or is having babies left and right. go figure:) |
