question for everyone. did y'all have to have a positive opk before u went for IUI or did you go based on ur anticipated date of ovulation. my hussie and i have been trying for 11 mths now and nothing. i'm fine healthwise but he has motility issues. however we are considering IUI this week. it's going to cost $450 and i was wondering if this price is reasonable. i'm 28yrs old and i'm hoping that this will work for us..baby dust to y'all

Hi Mel - I'm with you - I actually go Labor Day to get my preg. test. No symptoms...just lots of prayers!!!

Mel - August 30th, 2005 3:31 PM

Just got the results of my blood test from my doctore and I am NOT pregnant! But I have got to keep a positive attitude, so I am looking forward to the next month and maybe some success? So, we are going to increase my dose of Clomid, check my follicles with an ultrasound and then check my progesterone levels 7 days after ovulation to ensure that I did indeed release the egg. I am also seriously considering doing accupunture this month.

Ijay, my doctor charges $125 for just the IUI procedure. I pay an additional $200 for the sperm wash. My insurance covers 50% of infertility treatment excluding IVF. Maybe yours does too?

Thanx Mel for that useful information. I got a positive opk this afternoon so I'm scheduled for IUI at 1pm tomorrow. I pray it works 'cos this is my first time but I'm pretty hopeful. I'll keep y'all posted though.

Liz I too started of seeing a doctor at a large teaching hospital in my town and it was SO BIG I always felt rushed. My OB then recommended I see a different practice where it's just 2 docs and when I have appointments I'm almost always the only person in the office. I have to say I really think the care I get there is far superior to what was at the teaching hospital. My doctor even calls me just to check in and see how I'm feeling! I've never heard of anyone else doing that. I saw that you were concerned with over stimulating your ovary with injectables. Has your RE discussed Femara with you if Clomid isn't successful? I used Clomid for 2 cycles and with my second cycle produced 7 follicles! My doctor was concerned with the number and the quality of them and talked to me about Femara. It works by blocking estrogen and forcing the body to release LH. Typically you'll only produce 1 or 2 follicles with Femara so the risk for multiple births is MUCH less than even Clomid. It also doesn't thin the uterine lining like clomid or thicken cervical mucus so the need for IUI is reduced. I chose to do IUI with my first cycle of Femara and got pregnant having only produced 1 follicle! I'm now just over 6 weeks along. It might be worth looking into if injectables aren't an option for you or Clomid ends up not being a good med for you. Best of luck and Baby Dust to all

marea - my husband and I went to visit the doctor today and have decided NOT to go through with iui this month - we are going to head for IVF at this point.

Liz - August 31st, 2005 2:38 PM

Beth: Thank-you for the detailed information re: practice size vs quality and other med options. This cycle I am remaining at the Univ. setting as I couldn't get the consult appt. until after I finished the 5 daysof Clomid. I am scheduled for blood work and ultrasound on Sunday morning and probably all next week> This cycle the RE is thinking of using HcG injection dependnet on my bolld levels. Prayers to all the ladies in waitng and to those lucky ones who are presently gestating!********************************

marea - August 31st, 2005 10:51 PM

thats great - im so excited for you. I'm on my 3rd try our iui is scheduled for this friday I have 5 follicles! I just took my shot and now its all up to god. My husband is aggressively trying to find out why he has what he does. And when he does, a plan of action will be made on how it will be corrected. after that and based on this doctors opinion my huband and i will decide on the ivf. im looking at oct. you hae to keep me posted on every step of your ivf.. are you excited?

Lisa - September 1st, 2005 1:20 AM

Ijay - I will pray for you. I had my 1st IUI on 8/25 so I'm just a few days ahead of you. I felt pretty crampy for a few days but now I'm much better. Hopefully the long weekend will help our 2ww go by faster. I was on Clomid and had 2 large follicles which the dr said was good. We'll see.

Amy - September 1st, 2005 6:11 AM

Mel- just stay positive, as I'l trying to do, and lets both see what happes the 3rd time around. I'm on the 3rd day of Clomid and really cranky... my Husband can't even stand my mood swings... and neither can I . LOL

Amy - September 1st, 2005 6:13 AM

SORRY FOR SPELLING ERRORS!!!!

vp - September 1st, 2005 9:26 AM

marea - no - can't say I am really excited. i'm sad that I can't get prego and i feel really guilty - know it sounds crazy but we could do so much more with the $$ it will cost us if I could get prego al naturel

Ijay - September 1st, 2005 9:39 AM

Lisa-thanx for ur support. actually i'm not on any meds. i had a tubal recanalization a month ago to open up my partially blocked tubes but i ovulate on my own and i have a regular 28-day cycle. however, my husband's sperm motility isn't very good that's why we decided to try iui...i guess i test exactly 7 days after u...well keep me posted.
vp- i know we'll rather spend our $$$ doing something else than this but i think it will be worth it when we end up with our bundle of joy. right now we're trying to buy a home so i'm quite distracted. hopefully that will help 'cos a lot of people have asked me to try to keep my mind off of it and relax. i work every other week so my next week off will be my test week... wish you all the best and lots of baby dust!!!!!

Melanie - September 1st, 2005 6:38 PM

Today I got a negative at 10dpiui. I think that it is still early and still a chance for a positive. My dr said that I can come in tomorrow (11dpiui) for a blood test. Do you think that it would be to early for that too? Or should I just wait until Monday (14dpiui)? Getting a negative is going to heart breaking and I just want to make sure if I do this test tomorrow and I get a negative that it is for sure a negative. Any advise???
