I have been on met. since sep 6 2005. I dont have pcos, but my husband and i have been ttc for 4 years now. My dr wants me to start clomid after being on met for 1 month. I had some side effects: bad stomach ache and gass. but just the other night i got really sick to my stomach and threw up since then i have felt great and i'm taking 1500mg per day. The question i have is today is cd 38 and im usually 28-30 days. I have no preg. symptoms, what should i do?

I think Metformin is a good product,my doctor diagnose me with PCO and told me to try this product for about three months to see if i would become pregnant, and in fact I did 7 weeks later!! The only side effects I've experience while on this product was dizzyness, and a change of color in my feces.

What is the most important information I should know about metformin?
• A small number of people who have taken metformin have developed a serious condition called lactic acidosis that has been fatal in up to 50% of cases. Lactic acidosis has occurred most often in people whose kidneys were not working properly. Liver problems may also increase the risk of developing lactic acidosis. Stop taking metformin and call your doctor immediately if you experience a feeling of general discomfort or sickness; weakness; sore or aching muscles; trouble breathing, unusual drowsiness, dizziness or lightheadedness; unusual or unexplained stomach upset (after the initial stomach upset that may occur at the start of therapy with metformin); or the sudden development of a slow or irregular heartbeat. These may be signs of lactic acidosis.
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking metformin. Together, alcohol and metformin may increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia.
• Metformin does not usually cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Nevertheless, hypoglycemia may occur, as a result of skipped meals, excessive exercise, or alcohol consumption. Know the signs and symptoms of low blood sugar, which include hunger, headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, sweating, tremor, and nausea. Carry candy or glucose tablets to treat episodes of low blood sugar.

Marissa....that's awesome! Are you still taking the Metfromin thru the pregnancy. This is my second week on Metformin-I'm currently 10dpo and have faith that this is our month---right now I'm taking 1000mg and I'm suppossed to go up to 2000 within next two weeks---really no side effects--except one morning my bm was green(okay, tmi) anyways I love to hear successful PCO pregnancy stories

7 weeks is really fast. I have been on Met for a month, I have an appt with my dr tomorrow. The only thing is that I havent' had the change 2 BD because I have had my menstruation for 30 days and counting. I do have the ovulation microscope and I have ovulated but can't do anything. I'm frustrated so I hope that now that the Met has brought AF down that it stops long enough 4 me 2 BD and get pg. Any more success stories like Marissas?

Hang in there Ladies...I've only been on the Metformin for 2 weeks and I got my first BFP yesterday!!! Hope it works as well for you and lots a baby dust your way!
