On Clomid...missed period, but negative HPT

Question: Hi. I'm new to this forum, but I"m going NUTS! I took clomid 50 mg for the first time on days 3-7 (I have one daughter, and I got pregnant the first time I used clomid with her, and the HPT didn't come back positive until 4 weeks past ovulation). Ovulation test came back positive on day 14, we BD as often as we were supposed to. Now I'm 15 days past ovulation with dizzy spells the past week or so, lower back cramps, and LOTS of stretchy, wet CM (Sorry to be gross). However, I've taken 3 HPT in the past week and they're all negative. Does it sound like I"m pregnant? Shouldn't my period have come like clockwork 14 DPO since I know I ovulated with the clomid? Advice, please! I'm going crazy trying to figure this out!!!! Thanks! Kelly

Answer: Having been on clomid for three cycles, I can honestly say that your period could just be late or you could very well be pregnant. I know that doesn't help, but each month that I took it, my period was 4 to 5 days late and I had every PG symptom in the book. You just won't know until you either get a positive HPT or AF. Answer: Hi kclarkadpi, Tracy88 is right. You just won't know until you get a +hpt or AF. Having a +LH surge on the opk doesn't mean you will ovulate that day. Remember it says that you will ovulate within the next 24 to 48 hours. I was told that it's 14 days before AF that we ovulate. I was also on Clomid for three cycles, the first 2 cycles were 33 days long. I was having pg symptoms but -hpt then AF came. Today I'm cd19 on my third Clomid cycle and still with no LH surge. I do hope your AF won't come and will have a +hpt instead. It's just probably early to check that's why you're getting a negative result. Good luck!

Answer: kclarkadpi.....yes, that's right. On clomid I would ovulate around cd 14 or 15 and get AF on about cd32 or 33. I normally have 28 day cycles, but clomid made my cycle longer. In the TWW or luteal phase I always had tons of creamy cervical mucus. I thought I was PG each month, but NOPE. It worked for my sister on her second cycle, but did not work for me at all. I was not monitored very well, so far all I know my lining was too thin or something. Best wishes.

Answer: Hi Kclarkadpi. Clomid, as Tracy88 said can cause your cycles to get longer (it can lengthen the leutal phase), but usually by just a few days. Truthfully I'd suggest if AF still hasn't come by mid-week I'd suggest getting a beta done at your dr's office. They're more sensetitive than most HPTs esp. in your case since with your 1st pg you didn't generate enough HCG to get a + til your 4th week. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Answer: Thanks for you input. It really helps to hear from others!!! I went today (Monday) and took a blood pregnancy test at local lab, and it came back negative. According to my calculations, AF is 4 days late (but I guess I might have ovulated later than I thought or something). This leaves me more confused than EVER! I'm still having symptoms, and I really do feel pregnant. Is it possible that it's just still too early to show up on a test? AF still is showing no signs of being here...(I keep hoping that since it took so long with my 1st pregnancy to show, it'll happen again...but that was with HPT, not blood tests..).

Answer: kclarkadpi, did you have a progesterone level check on cd21? I had one done with my Clomid cycles to check whether I did ovulate or not. They want to see to see a result of 15 or more with Clomid. I had one done last Monday and the result is only 1.48 so I did not ovulate with my third Clomid cycle. I'm now on cd 24 with no signs of af coming soon.

Answer: manyika...no I didn't have my proges. level checked. I'm assuming I did in fact ovulate because an OPK showed I was going to, and I had EWCM and ovulation cramping around the same time. So, if you're on CD24, does that mean you haven't ovulated yet, or you just simply won't ovulate this cycle? And, do you know anything about Clomid regarding if you DEFINITELY will start your period around 14 days after you ovulated (when you're pretty darn sure you did)? Shouldn't I have either started by now or be pregnant? Once again, AUGGH! I'm going nuts!

Answer: kclarkadpi...no, I haven't ovulated yet and I think I'm not going to this cycle. I had u/s done on cd15 and they found follies but were smaller than the ones I had during the first 2 cycles on Clomid. I had another u/s done on cd21 since I didn't detect a LH surge and found out that the follies even got smaller than they were on cd15. The nurse even told me that I must have missed my surge but I know I didn't bec. I started checking since cd 12. I read this info that when taking Clomid, you will ovulate between 5-8 days after the last pill and if you don't conceive, you usually will have af 3 weeks after the taking the last pill. But I guess it doesn't apply to everybody. Are your cycles regular? Mine are irregular, I thought the Clomid will regulate it but I must have developed a resistance to it. If you're a week late and you said that you didn't have +hpt until you were 4 weeks past ovulation during your first pregnancy, it's possible that you are indeed pregnant but your hcg is not detectable yet. Try having your progesterone level checked too. It should be higher than 15 as it supports the lining of your uterus. Good luck!

Answer: manyika...my cycles have never been regular, but I've been on the pill for 10 years (Except while trying to conceive my 1st). I got off it in January, and I was running about 35-40 days between cycles. In May, I had a 32 day cycle...we had tried then to conceive, but had no luck. So, we thought we'd give clomid a shot again. I am now 8 days late, and still having lots of CM, dizziness, and lower back cramping. Here's hoping..... And, I wish you the best of luck next cycle! I"ll post when I either start AF or get a BFP!

Answer: Well, I'm almost 3 weeks late for AF, and the doc put me on Provera to make AF come. Tests are still negative. Very frustrating...I really felt pregnant this time. I guess I'm just crazy. I'm pretty sure AF will come with the provera. Thought I'd update the scenario for others in the same boat.

Answer: You are not crazy. Clomid actually does make you feel pregnant in every respect. I had tons of symptoms, not imagined, and 3 cycles of BFN's. I even had high day 21 progesterone levels, which always made the doctors hopeful I'd get PG, and nothing!!! Even if you are seeing a regular OB/GYN have them do a day 21 blood draw for progesterone next time. Day 21 really means about 7 days after you ovulate, so if you ovulate on cd11, you would go in on cd18. I wish you lots of luck. I know it's hard to go through BFN's after you were so sure. I'm right there with you sister.

Answer: kclarkadpi...I am in the same boat that you are. DH and I are ttc#1. Last month was my firtst cycle on clomid and I did not ovulate. Doc had to put me on provera to make me cycle before the first round of clomid because it had been 3 1/2 months since my last period. I am back on the provera today being day 6 and go in for an exam when I start. Doc plans to up my dosage to 100mg on the next cycle. Keep us posted!

Answer: Things never seem to be simple with me... On Provera, apparently you're not supposed to have a period until 5-14 days after your last pill (I'm taking 10 days of pills). Well, AF came after pill 6. My doctor is very confused why that happened, and recommended not to use Clomid this month. Well, I can't see forfeiting a month of TTC because the doctor "isn't sure what to do". Agree? Anyway, I have an appt. with an OB that deals mostly with fertility issues on Tuesday, so we'll see what he has to say. Another frustration.....I'm sure there will be more to come. Blanketsandbottles...how did provera work for you? Any of the same issues? and, Tracy88--I guess I"m going to just have to ignore any preg. symptoms and wait until after I miss AF before testing in the future. I just about drove myself nuts and spend tons of $$ on tests for nothing! Last time on clomid (when I conceived my 1st...), I got pregnant the first round, so I guess I just naturally assumed it would happen that way again. WRONG! Answer: I'm sorry AF played such mind games with you this cycle. My older sister took clomid and it worked for her on her second cycle, so when I felt the bloating, cramps, sore boobs, indigestion, etc....I thought for sure it had worked for me too. The worst part was the late periods. That really messed with my mind. So, when the first cycle didn't work for me, I was SURE the second one would, I mean, it worked for my sister, right? It went like this for three months until finally my body couldn't stand that drug anymore. I was emotionally and physically exhausted. It made me feel horrible, I gained 12 pounds, and obviously it wasn't working for me. That's when I moved to my new doctor. He is also an OB who specializes in Infertility. When I told him I have painful periods, and they saw a fibroid during a routine ultrasound, he recommended doing a laparoscopy. I had that done two weeks ago. No wonder clomid didn't work for me.....there was a lot going on in there. He cleaned house and I am now good to go! So, this cycle, which should start any day now, I will be TTC naturally, but will be monitored so the doc sees how my body works on its own. If I don't get PG this cycle, then we will move to injectables in September. I don't recommend doing anything else until you see that other doctor. You are soooo lucky that you have an appointment so soon! I waited for a month to get into see mine. I started seeing this doctor in May, had a sono in June, and just had the lap in July (had to wait a month for that too). It seems like I just took 3 months off, but when I look back, I'm glad I had it worked out the way it did, because he awesome and did such a great job with the laparoscopy. I feel ready to try again. I spotted last night, thought for sure AF would be here when I woke up this morning, but it seems this month is going to play games with me since I had the lap done. Anyway, that is where I stand, and I want to hear everything the doc says to you tomorrow ok?

Answer: Tracy... Well, it seems to me like my appointment was pretty useless. He said that it's not THAT unusual to start AF in the middle of a course of provera; it just doesn't happen often. So, that I started the Clomid was okay. He said that it sounds like I'm classic PCOS. He said to give it another month on clomid, and then if I'm not pg, on CD3 next time to go get blood work done and he'll put me on glucophage (sp?) to help with the PCOS. He also said to lose 20 lbs (bast**d!). Anyway, he didn't even run any tests or do an exam. We just went in his office. So, I guess for now, I'm just on my own this month waiting to see if the Clomid makes me ovulate. He didn't even suggest a 21day blood draw like I expected. Let me know how it goes this month when you finally get AF. Hopefully this month you'll be okay on your own...I can't imagine to have to go through injectibles. The pills screw with my hormones enough as is (Although this month on Clomid I"m not getting the unbearable hot flashes like I had last month). I'm on CD7 now, so it's just a waiting and BD game! Are you TTC#1 or do you have kids already?

Answer: I don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but it used to frustrate me when I wouldn't find out what happened with people. So, here goes. After the provera and the 2nd round of clomid, I got a BFP! I took a test because I missed my period by one day (just took it on a whim). It was faintly positive, so 2 tests later, I went and got a blood test, and it was positive. Oddly enough, this was what it took to conceive my daughter...the clomid alone didn't work. I took provera to induce a period back then, too, and THEN got pregnant off the clomid. Best of luck to everyone!

Answer: Hello, I have some q's about clomid and the hcg shot right before you ovulate. I have been on clomid for 5 cycles now and no luck, this past cycle of clomid I also got the hcg shot the day before ovulation, I am pretty sure I ovulated the next night we done what we were supposed to. Now here are some q's the first two cycles of clomid were normal the second two my period kept coming closer and closer by like 4-5 days each time so this last cycle the doc said would be my last b/c he did not think it was working, so on this last cycle I also got the hcg shot the day before I ovulated now instead of my periods coming early it is now 3 days late and a hpt was neg yesterday, could it still be too early and I took the test at night does that really make a big difference? Answer: TAM25, my experience with clomid was a little different. I got my period late each cycle. This was due to hugh progesterone levels. High progesterone indicates a good ovulation, but as in my case, I still never got PG. Your progesterone level decreases toward the end of your cycle until it reaches a certain low, at which time your period comes. With a drug like clomid, you may have gotten a higher level than normal; thus it is taking longer for the level to go down and present a period. OR you could be PG and it is just not registering yet on the test. My guess would be that your period just may be late if the HPT is coming up negative and your period is already late. Good luck. I hope I made sense, and like I said, this was the case for me, which is not true for everyone else.

Answer: Yes, it does sound like your pregnant. I am a mother of 2. I took many pregnancy tests with my first daughter. It wasn't until I took a blood test that I found out that I was pregnant. Some women can hahe low estrogen levels in their body and because of that a pregnany test might not show that you are pregnant ,when in fact you are. Take a blood test! My period is 3 days late and I had a really light pink tinge of blood about 4 days ago (so I thought AF was coming) but nothing since. Heaps of cramps, twinges and things which COULD be pg symptoms, but from reading others posts in this forum it could just be that AF is on it's way. Do you think the light spotting I had could be implantation bleeding? Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? I havent dont a HPT yet, was trying to hold off as long as possible as I don't want to be dissappointed with a BFN. I misscarried a year ago so am so scared of going through that again.

Took progesterone test on Day 21, and dr said it was less than 1..and he wanted me at a 10. I'm technically late, but have always been irregular. Dr said to take a HPT on Day 35 if I still haven't started. I was just wondering if it's possible to get pregnant with such a low progesterone level? I'm having symptoms that could mean I'm PG, but then again..it could just be in my mind.

Answer: it's more than likely clomid symptoms. and a progesterone level of 1, i don't think, would sustain a pregnancy. if clomid didn't make you ovulate (and from your levels it didn't) then you'll need to take provera again. it's not uncommon, though. even if you do ovulate from it, you might not have a period. good luck, though.

Answer: I have been trying for a couple years now to get pregnant again. I had a baby boy 5 years ago, and he came naturally...without Clomid. After finding out I was diagnosed with PCOS, my doctor told me that I was to try Provera and Clomid. Well what he didn't tell me to start is that I have to keep it going. I did one round of 50mg of clomid, and NOTHING. UGH! I was sooooooo frustrated. So now, at the end of May I started taking the Provera. On June 27th 2008 I got my AF (Aunt Flo). HATED IT! But it was here...took Clomid on day 5-9, did the deed on days 11-18 (just in case), and well, now I'm on day 32...no period. I'm not sure if this helps you or not, but I know this is my situation. I have had lower back cramps, leg cramps, nausea etc...not sure if this is normal, and if anyone is seeing this message and has had the same issues as I let me know. Hope this helps!

I tried clomid for the 1st time in June from June 23-27 I took provera to start my period and on June 28th I started taking the clomid 50 mg (5 pills) and bd on day 13 and 14 from taking the last clomid pill, my doctors appt is this Friday to take my pg test, and then I can start my 2nd round which I'm going to ask him if he can up the dose to 100mg, I highly doubt that I'm pg I'm not having any symptons besides some mild cramping but other then that nothing .. I'm TTC# 3 and with my 1st two I got sick and always knew that I was pregnant, my body had changed so much and it has a mind of it's own I'm frustrated too, mainly because af does not show her face unless I take provera which makes me seem like this will be impossible

Answer: hi sril, i am on clomid 50 mg and i have completed 2 cycles of clomid. in these two cycles i ovulated on 14 day. i was supposed to have periods on 29 july but till now i dont have periods so i took HPT and it came negative. i used ETP brand. i was confused too when my HPT comes negative but many people say that sometimes HPT comes negative even if u r pregnant. so u must go for blood test it will tell u accurately. i have appointment with my doc tomorrow so i am crossing my fingers and hope that blood test come positive. lets see what doc say tomorrow plz wish me luck bcoz i need it alot.... and i recommend u to go for blood test if u want accurate results.... Answer: I know how you feel. I am on my 3rd cycle of clomid. First time I had all the symptoms. I even collapsed and was taken to hospital. I had my periods a week later and my Dr. told me that I must try to relax, try not think about this too much. Your MC get affected. I want to know if you had consipation problems when taking clomid? I get constipated for 5 day of clomid intake. Is this normal? Good luck.

Answer: ahan well i am not taking any homeopathic medicine with clomid but yah when i was in Pakistan i did a course of homeopathic to regularize my periods but even after that course my periods were still irregular so guess it doesn't work for me..... ..... and as far as my weight is concern so my doc said that my weight is ideal according to my height. my height is 5,5 and weight is 126 pounds so i dont think so i need to lose weight but yah i do little bit of exercise daily..... well, many people have said to me to relax and dont think abt getting pregnant it will happen when time comes... but u know its not easy to not to think abt this especially when u hope to get pregnant and HPT test comes negative all the time......... i try not to think abt this but its not easy...... :(

Answer: Hy gals, I am in a similar boat to you all. I have PCOS, l had a son (now 19 months) on clomid first try... l had taken provera to initiate AF. I am on my first cycle of clomid, CD28, and like many others was certain l was UTD as l had so many symptoms, however the doc said my progesterone levels were too low so l couldn't have ovulated - there goes my theory... don't know what the levels were so will ask. I have been spotting for the last 5 days (6th today) - so completely unsure what to do now... have put a call to my doc to ask. I just want to get on with next month. Anybody know if you can ovulate as late as day 24? Anyway, l guess we should all take heart, clomid does work - l am living proof... just wish it wouldn't play havoc with our emotions as it does.

Answer: Hi, All I've been married for 4 years and have been trying for about 3 years. I'm on my first round of clomid and I'm now 6 days late. I always have a 28 day cycle. Can clomid mess your cycle up? The first day late was day 29 and I took the HPT and it was negative. I took it again today and still negative. Could I still be pregnant? Breast hurt and cramps. My doctor did a progesterone test on day 22 and it was only a 4. He said that I need to be at a 10 but 3 is low. The doctor suggest I wait a full 7 days to test again. I feel like a test rat at this time I have had every test you can think of even as far as exploratory surgery and nothing found. This is the first time that I had a 4 on progesterone test. My doctor says to me that womens with PCOS don't have to use ovulating tests bcouse that test do not work with womens who suffers with PCOS. Answer: Hello All, I was diagnosed wit endometriosis July of 2007. I had laparoscopic surgery in October of the same year. After the surgery was put of a prescription drug called Lupron to ensure that any little cyst were kept dormant. The Lupron medication stopped my AF and I did not have a period until May of 2008. In that month I started Clomid, 50mg on days 5 to 9. After four cycles, I still was not pregnant. I back to my doctor and he increased my intake of Clomid to 100mg on days 5 to 9. I took 100mg in September 2008 and waited. I did not receive any period this month. I went back to the doctor again and told him my AF has not arrived. I took two hpt and two at the doc. All came up negative. He has not started me on Provera to bring AF back. So I can start cycle six of Clomid. I hope I get pregnant soon. It is so heartbreaking each month seeing AF come. I hope the best for everyone.

Answer: hi, i'm so glad to have found this thread. we have been trying now for over a year. i had got pregnant on the 2nd cycle after i stopped taking BCPs, then miscarried at 9 weeks. we started ttc again in Feb, and nothing yet. after the dnc i started spotting 7 days before AF for every other cycle. after being put on progesterone for about 4 months, my doctor put me on clomid 50mg on days 5-9, and i continued with the prometrium 200mg but vaginally. i had a lot of the symptoms everyone was explaining above. i took a hpt the day before my expected period and got a neg. now i'm 3 days late. took one again this morning. not sure if it was an evap line or a very faint positive. but still no AF. i'm glad to know that at least it is common to be late. i'm 100% of the time 28 days on the dot. but i do uysually spot a couple days before. there was no spotting this time. i do know that i ovulated. can this still happen even if you ovulated? do you think that this "evap" line that i saw may have actually been positive? i don't know what to do, at this point, i wish something would just happen. thanks in advance. k

Answer: since i know that i like hearing what happens after people post, i just wanted to update and say that while i have not yet received my AF, i did get a truly unmistakeable bfn. so hopefully i'll get my period soon and then we can try again! while clomid does have side effects, i think that if they're bearable (which mine def were), it's totally worth it. good luck to everyone who reads this :):)

Firts round f clomid put me back in range with a 34 days cycle. YAY! Doc said that was good. This time around I am going on 37 days so far witha negative test. For me my regular period symtoms are all also pregnancy symtoms!! THIS SUCKS! I have a doc appt thursday to get bakc on clomid for teh 3rd time.... This ttc stuf is frustrating after a year!! Even though i had a neg test I am reallly hoping the doc tells me I am prego on thursday!!! Has anyone whose been on clomid with irregular periods.... gotten back in range with your period and then outof range again??? I just expecte dmy period to stay regulated while on clomid.... Oh one more thing... I did have a 21 day progesterine test done 2st time and it was like 11.4, in range.... Answer: Hi, I'm new here & I have several questions. I have PCOS and I have been TTC for a while now. I started out with the Provera to make me start with clomid on scheduled days. After a few months of this, I started on my own without the use of Provera (yaay me!) and my doc said that that means I am indeed ovulating. This has continued regularly for 4 months now. These last 2 months I have been on 100mg of clomid. My LMP was 9/23, (which my cycles for the last 2 mos have been 31 days) estimating ovulation & schedule did everything the same. (And I also take Metformin 3x daily). Now .. I have not started yet and we are on day 38 today .. one week after I should have started. I have had cramping like I'm going to as well as lots of CM for 2 weeks now. I have contacted my OB after taking several HPT ... all reading negative. My nurse suggested blood test & possible u/s to see whats going on for sure. But, now today when I called to find out what was up after not being contacted, they called back to say ... 'start provera again' ... in the mean time I have to say that I am very frustrated with the fact that they aren't doing any test or anything to make sure that there isn't more going on. I can't say that I 'feel' pregnant, because I don't really know what that feels like. (my dtr is now 6 & i conceived on my own & had no clue i was pregnant until almost 8 weeks when tested). All I do know, is that I don't feel normal. Normal being, the same that I have felt the past four months doing the same procedures. Help! Any ideas? Other than switching OB's (heavily crossing my mind). Thanks for listening!!

Very expensive, but there's a generic too. Maybe since you've already had one miscarriage, your doc would consider it?? I just finished my first unsuccessful cycle of clomid 50mg followed by the crinone. My period is now 5 days late. So glad to hear I'm not alone in this very frustrating process.

Have been on clomid on and off. everytime i take clomid i definatly ovulate but just can't get pg. this is my 4th cycle and i ovulated on cd12. did all we could from cd 11-17. now i am at cd19 but no period. my breasts just started feeling quite sore and sensitive frm cd17. pregnancy kit still shows negative. the first time i got pregnant the kit showd my pregnancy within 7=9days of conception. so does it mean that the next time i get pg, i will have the same high hcg level as the 1st experience. i am very frustrated and confused. i don't know if i should stay positive or if i should not have my hopes too high. smeetimes i get so paranoid that i keep taking pregnancy tests everyday just hoping to see double lines each time but always disappointed. my husband always tells me to relax and don;t get so stressed up but i just cannot help it. I know tt getting stressed up is only gg to decrease my chances of gettg pg but i can't help it. someone pls help me and tell me how i can relax or not get so stressed up so that all the clomid i am taking will not go to waste each and everytime.

Answer: fungirl: I completely understand your frustration! I was on Clomid for 7 months, had regular 28-30 day cycles. Went off clomid back in October, due to the mental messups it does in the head, had one regular cycle and now am on day 55 of my second cycle off Clomid. I have taken 5 HPT tests and they have all come back negative, called my doctor today to see if I can take a blood test, but she said there wouldn't be any use since it would just show what the HPT showed. Now I get to go in and have some tests done so they can figure out what to do with me. Its sooooooooooo frustrating. Good luck, and lots of Baby Dust!
