Title of Question:
Clomid & OPK's
Question:
Hi ladies. Quick question. I finished my 1st round of Clomid (50 mg) 6 days ago and have been getting neg. OPK's...up until this morning. I was getting --'s with Clear Blue, but I started using Answer today and definitely got a darker test line than the ref. line. My only question is that the test line, although darker, looks a bit thinner than the test line. I called the 1-800 number to ask about this....and they said to ask my dr about how the clomid will affect OPK results....but they also said that what matters with the test is the color intensity of the band rather than the width. Can anyone vouch for that? Sorry...this was SUPPOSED to be short : )

Answer:
The thickness of the line doesn't matter. IT's the darkness. Clomid make you ovulate anywhere from 5-10 days after your last pill. Good Luck!! I hope it does the trick!

Yes Ruby, me too had tested with answer last month, which was my 1st clomid month, and had seen a darker line than the reference line. it was thinner too. but i had ovulated. anyway, no success last month. trying this month again.

Every other day keeps your bases covered . With good CM, those little guys can live up to 5 days. They will at least live 48 hours. So, don't sweat it. You're alright!

your stories/advice is helping me so much, ladies. 2 days ago i began having uncomfortable tugging/cramping in my abdomen so i guess i can take that as being ovulation cramps. i think i'm one of the unlucky ones who's CM dried up a bit with the clomid. hopefully the little guys made it up okay, though. how long have you ladies been trying?

Hi ladies. I am cd15, my cervix has gotten higher, and I have EWCM today. I took an opk yesterday that was neg, and one today was weak (not nearly as dark as the control). Problem: DH is not due home til midnight tomorrow! I am afraid that I will O tomorrow or even tonite w/o DH. We have been ttc for over 2.5 yrs now and I know that one more time probably won't make that much difference, but I have been using some different herbs and doing acupressure (The Infertility Cure) this month and really wanted it to work. I could really use some pep talks.

Hi Merlee!! I wish I could tell you exactly what you want to hear. I can't do that but I can say that a positive OPK (completely positive) means you will O sometime in the next 12-48 hours with most of us O'ing 36 hours after a positive. Sounds like you're getting close. What time did you take the test? If this AM, then you might have your 100% positive tonight or tomorrow morning. You should be fine. Just make sure to be waiting for him at midnight in your prettiest negligee!! And Good Luck!!! What herbs did you choose?

Answer:
D. Hi! Thanks for responding so soon. I am taking handfuls of herbs 3x day! Vitex, dong quai, astragalus, black cohosh, EPO, Nettles based on the book and still taking Red Clover and Red Raspberry b/c I am calcium deficient. It took awhile to get used to the black cohosh (hard on the stomach, now I take it on a fully stomach and it is okay). My BBT chart has settled down for phase I (I think it was the black cohosh) and I hope the rest of my cycle goes as well. I test opk after I get home from work 4-5pm. Last month I got the dipsticks from early-pregnancy-test.com (the same ones are sold on several diff. sites). I noticed that the test line never got very dark last month(never as dark as the control), and tested w/ some Answer test strips I still had and the test was much darker (same as control). I am not really sure about these tests. I am worried that today was really a pos. on this test strip, based on last month and based on CM and Cervical position. Really frustrated, I still have about 10 left.

Answer:
I use babywishes and it's the same. But I've come to figure out what a positive is for me. It never gets very dark but I do know that when it's about 1/2 as dark, that's my positive. It took me a few cycles to figure it out for sure though. A balance chart is a good sign. I'm so happy for you!! Answer has a decent reputation over at my other forum so I wouldn't worry about the outcome. I test twice a day (once around noon and again around 8PM). Looks like you are on a good direction. I smell a BFP real soon!!

Thanks D for the encouragement, but I still haven't resolved all of my issues. It will probably be a couple of months before I get everything right according to the book. I do hope this is it, though. Baby Dust to everyone!

Well, my temp only went up .1 this morning (it has been hovering around 97.6-97.7, today 97.8). I tested again today and the online opk was still weak (half as dark and the control), but the Answer stick was WAY pos, much darker than control. Still EWCM, cervix is still open. Just now (4pm), I feel some small O feelings (not really pain, but you know what I mean). DH due home at 11 pm tonite. Guess that means it will be a boy?!? Send me that ~~Baby Dust~~!!

hi ladies. merlee, it's so funny...i just posted on a thread about late ovulation...i mentioned my current experience with Answer OPK's. i'm beginning to think they're faulty. i got a +OPK last thursday, then friday, then saturday...but by friday i was beginning to think something was wrong so i tested using clearblue and BFN!! i am still switching from clearblue & answer, and the answer brand is still giving me positives!!! while the clearblue has yet to give me one. i'm glad to see i'm not the only one with a problem with these. have you ladies heard of ovarian cysts affecting the results?

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but I had some pretty bad O pains Saturday (started slowly at 4 pm, then got really bad, had to use heating pad). DH got home @11pm and was happy to BD. I woke up Sun with some cramps still, but not as bad. My temp didn't go up at all!! Today, it only went up .1. I had all the signs, ewcm, high and open cervix, O pains, and pos opk, but temp did not go up! So confused! May be the egg didn't pop out?! I just don't know what to think!! D. - Loved the Baby Dust - Thanks!!!

Answer:
Merlee, Sometimes we have slow rises. It takes a day or two for the temp to truly go up. Also, sometimes we have O pains a day or two BEFORE we actually O. Any of it is possible. It's why I chart and do it online. Trying to guess at all that was driving me crazy!!! I'm thinking you O'd. Of course, I can't really know that but I'm going to believe you did. But watch the CM. If you start to feel like you're Oing again, then get busy just in case. I can't remember: Did you say you chart on FertilityFriend? D.

Answer:
Yes, I do chart on FF. My temp usually dips .1 the day before O, then goes up .3-.4, very clear cut. This month I hovered around 97.6-97.7, then up to 97.8. Sun (cd17) when I should have showed O'd, temp stayed the same, no dip, then cd 18 (Monday) temp was 97.9. This morning cd 19 (Tuesday) my temp went up to 98.3, so FF will say that I o'd on Monday. That would be cd 18, and I always o cd 15-17. My cervix is medium high and still open a little. I almost always have a 12 day LP, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see, and calculate based on that. I took black cohosh this month and had hoped that it would help me to O on day 14 not day 18! I just ordered a new herbal formulation online. But I want this to be the month, I am really tired of this as I am sure are, too. DH is gone now til Friday, but he will be home all weekend. He was only home for 24 hrs., just in time to BD x2.

Answer:
Maybe it was the black cohosh. Isn't that supposed to be estrogenic in quality? It might have interfered with the progesterone and since that is what gives us temp increase, it just didn't come together. Of course, whenever we start the herbs it can take our bodies a little bit to get used to them and get balanced. And you are like me: Had a little bit of everything wrong with you, right? Here's a list that might help too http://www.talk.sheknows.com/showthread.php?t=185
