Title of Question:
Clomid Dosage
Question:
hai, I am 28. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and have irregular mensus. My Doc put me on Clomid 50mg (one tablet a day from days 3-7 & one tablet for 10 alternate days). I find that people describe taking only 5 dosage tablets per cycle. Could some one using clomid, let me know on what dosages were pregnant or was prescribed by their OB? Thank you

I am currently taking Clomid and have been for the last 4 months!! I started taking 50 mg. tablets for the first three months-days 3-7 and then on the 4th month I started taking 100 mg tablets on days 3-7 so I really don't know anything about 10 alternate days. That is a little unusual

Answer:
PCOS indiscriminately strikes women between the ages of puberty and menopause. It is the leading cause of female infertility, and if left untreated can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and endometrial cancer. The symptoms of PCOS frequently rob a woman of her self-esteem and femininity, and can include irregular menstrual cycles, excessive facial and body hair(hirsutism), male pattern baldness, acne, polycystic ovaries, obesity/weight gain, skin tags(acrochordons), infertility, dark skin patches(acanthosis nigricans), depression. PCOS is a health problem that can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. Women with PCOS have these characteristics: high levels of male hormones, also called androgens an irregular or no menstrual cycle may or may not have many small cysts in their ovaries. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs. PCOS is the most common hormonal reproductive problem in women of childbearing age.

Hi Ursila. I am 25 years old and I was diagnosed with PCOS in September 2004. I was put on 1500 mg of Glucophage daily and given 50 mg of Clomid in November to take days 3-7 after not becoming pregnant in October. My first round of Clomid worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am now 10 weeks pregnant and feel terrific!! I didn't have much faith that this would work, but I am a believer in Clomid. Hang in there. Please make sure that your doctor follows you closely. My best friend has been trying to conceive for over a year now and was on 150 mg for over 3 months and now has a large cyst on her ovary. Think positive and God will send you your precious baby!!

Answer:
Meagan, I have the same situation as you. I was diagnosed with PCOS and am on 1500 mg of glucophage daily. I'm on a 5 day cycle of clomid (100 mgs daily) and hoping for the best. Did you have to have multiple follicle scans?? My doctor wants me to have them about every 3 days and I'm extremely frustrated because I can't afford to take time off from work that often and I have to pay for it out of pocket because my insurance won't cover it. I feel I could use over the counter tests to predict ovualtion. My doc is also pushing the use of HCG and an insemination on my first cycle. Do you think this is a bit overboard? Thanks for any advice and congrats on your pregnancy!

Answer:
Amber, the reason for all the scans while on clomid is to be sure that everything remains ok. As with most ovulation-inducing drugs, there is a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. Cysts can erupt and ovaries can be enlarged. Also, the uterus lining can start thinning to prevent implantation. I am going through the same thing right now with not being able to take the time off from work but my insurance covers everything fortunately. Otherwise I would not be going to the infertility specialist. I may even have to go every day for the ultrasound and the place is 45 mins. away from me. I have blood work tomorrow and I am finishing up day 5 of clomid. This is my first month on it. It is rough to get there with work but I am hoping for the best on my first try. As long as everything goes ok since I've been on the clomid, I will be having the IUI very soon. I know how frustrated you must be about the whole situation between the time off, not getting pregnant on your own, and paying out of your pocket. Just hang in there, it will happen soon enough and that baby will be worth every second of it. At least that is what I keep telling myself to try to ease the disappointment every month.

Hi to all, I was just prescribed Clomid today- after a year of trying- and reading this board- I sound like I fit the profile for PCOS- but I was wondering if anyone used the generic form of Clomid, or knows anyone that has? I was just wondering if there is any difference in the success rate? Sounds like there are plenty of you galz out there that are in the same boat I am. I'm sorry to hear about it, but I feel better knowing I am not alone. Thank you to everyone that took the time to share their story & I will keep you in my thoughts & send out my best vibes to everyone!! Hang in there.... and I'll try to do the same! :O)

Its great to hear all your success stories. I went to the gynae a few days ago because i went off BC 6 weeks ago and still no blood flow. He did a scan and found that i have follicles on my ovaries. He said it could be PCOS but i don't have any of the other symptoms (excessive hair, overweight, etc.) He sent me for blood tests and i need to see him on Monday to find out what is wrong with me. If i do have PCOS and he starts me on treatment (Chlomid i assume), would I beable to fall pregnant on the treatment or would I have to wait a while for it to get out of my system?

Hi i have PCOS and have just started taking clomid 50mg, My gyno told my to take it from day 2 to day 6 of my cycle. It seems that every doc precribes it slightly differently. As far as im am aware the only difference it makes is the day that you ovulate in your cycle. I would like to wish everyone luck and on a positive note my sister also has PCOS and successful concieved after taking 4 months of clomid so there is hope for everyone!

I did get a few small cysts from it, but when you go off of Clomid they go away on thier own. But the best advice I have it to use the ovulation kits!!! I only did this the first 2 month, but wish I would have kept better track of it! Good luck to all :)

now i was just told today that i can not try another cycle of clomid. i only did one cycle. the lining of my uterus wasn't great but wasn't to bad either. clomid thins the lining of the uterus and as they put it today, the baby needs a "pillow" which would be the uterus so it needs to be thicker. they are switching me to the injections for my 2nd month. so i am now finding out that clomid isn't good to be on for to long of a time.

Answer:
I was on injections of Follistim but lost my infertility insurance. I have PCOS and don't get my period unless the OB or RE starts one with the pill or by stimulating my ovaries with Follistim. Now all I have is Clomid, I live in a small town away from my RE and don't have a doc here. (We moved last Fall after a failed in-vitro). My RE gave me bc pills to start periods and a scrip for Clomid 100mg. I took it in September but it didn't do a thing. I didn't even get a period like I did with Follistim. Now I started a period today (from BC pills) after waiting 6 months to let things settle down. I actually have extra Clomid and wonder if the 100mg dose was just too low for me. My RE was very well-known and VERY successful- he got me pregnant on my 1st in-vitro but one of the embryos ended up in my fallopian tube and the one in my uterus died b/c its heart stopped beating. This was exactly 1 year after I gave birth to a stillborn son due to a nurse's grave mistake. My son Jacob would be 2 this month, and it's been a year since the miscarriage and 6 months since the last invitro try. (That one didn't work). I'm wondering if I should take the Clomid on different days than my RE said (he says day 5) and if I should take a higher dose. 100mg didn't even phase my ovaries, but they'd been bombarded with stronger meds for a year before trying the Clomid. The year of trying to get pregnant with Follistim and all those hormones made me gain about 15 pounds, and I had gained 15 with my son. I wonder if weight loss would help, but it seems no matter what I do, I can't lose weight! I know it is a typical PCOS thing, but I used to be thin and got a regular period every month. Now I have to take BC pills to get a period. I'm 36, have no money for infertility treatments and have only the Clomid. My hubby's new insurance doesn't cover infertility, while his old one covered in-vitro AND the meds needed. I guess I am as confused as everyone else- just how does Clomid work, and does it work on people who have used stronger follicle stimulating drugs? I know I will try 150mg this time, but I am tempted to try 200mg. I doubt I will- I'd be too scared, but it gets frustrating. Has anyone ever taken 200mg before? And I am still confused about the date to start Clomid. My RE says day 5. I had long cycles when I got my period, every 35-40 days, so does that determine when you should take it? Color me very confused and quite desperate. I'd appreciate any comments or advice, my email is thaliajen@yahoo.com -Jen

This is my second month on Clomid 2 50mg tablets a day. The first month I took them from day 5-9 and this time the doctor has me on them from day 3-7. I got pregnant so fast with my first child and now it is more difficult. I am not sure why certain days of taking it are more effective. I think it has something to do with the estrogen and FSH levels. Does anyone know?

Answer:
hi im 28 too, 2 years ago i was put on clomid 50mg, i was told to take it on day 5 of cycle untill day 9. i did this for three months and then found i was pregnant. my sister had the same tablets as me as she to had fertility problems, she took the medication the same way as i did and she has now had a baby. i am trying again. doctors may have told you to take medication in the way prescribed due to the cycle of your periods.
